Who are we?
Hi, I’m Jane Harvey. If you live in Toronto, Canada, you’ve probably heard of me. I was the first lawyer to advertise prices for legal services in Ontario. My law firm has six offices in the GTA. We are also Canadian trademark agents.
Why we started
In 1980, I was working as in-house counsel at the Toronto Star. For the first time I became a client. The legal bills from the outside firm were huge. The bills weren’t broken down by lawyer or matter. No one wanted to discuss the bills. No one wanted to give price quotes. The average wait in the waiting room was forty minutes. Telephone calls were returned only after a few days.
I saw a real market opportunity! Why not practice in retail space with low advertised prices and provide service? Jane Harvey Associates was born. Our price list is still our “logo”. Thankfully the Toronto and Canadian media liked the idea and gave a lot of free media coverage because lawyers still weren’t allowed to advertise. Finally, in 1987, after a lot of hot debate and work, the Law Society of Upper Canada allowed lawyer advertising.

Our initial consultation allows you to meet with a lawyer, discuss your problem and find out what your alternatives are.
